ERIK HANSON / C TEAM HEAD COACH

Coach Erik Hanson enters this season in his 30th year of teaching and coaching on the Sammamish Plateau. He began his coaching career all the way back in 1994 at Inglewood Junior High, where he lucky enough to fall under the tutelage of Coach Bruce Brown, which led to him coaching a myriad of sports including football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, wrestling and tennis over a span of 17 years. During that time, he also spent a few years coaching Eastlake varsity basketball, primarily as the Boys High School Varsity Assistant from 2007-2010 under then head coach Pat Bangasser. Since 2006, Coach Hanson has coached Eastlake Boys Golf, while also leading the Eastlake Girls Golf program from 2013-2021. In 2012, Coach Hanson transferred to Eastlake High School where he continues to teach math. Coach Hanson is excited to be back in the gym where he has a passion for coaching basketball and creating an environment in which players are challenged to reach their full potential at whatever level they are at. Similarly, to his classroom, Coach Hanson is committed to teaching the idea that anything is possible through hard work. He works to instill the same values of Coach Jones by taking kids in an environment they have chosen to be in and using that environment to teach life skills through hard work, discipline, accountability, and teamwork. Ultimately, Coach Hanson hopes his athletes will gain a high level of resilience and understand the importance of recovering from mistakes and focusing on what matters next.

When not teaching or coaching, you can find Mr. Hanson in the outdoors, especially mountain biking, watching his daughters play soccer and lacrosse, cheering on his Denver Broncos, or spending time with his wife who is also an Eastlake teacher and the Head Varsity Girls Lacrosse coach for Eastlake Lacrosse.

Fun fact: Coach Hanson was Coach Shaheen's basketball coach through junior high and one year of high school!
