May 2021: EASTLAKE BASKETBALL PLAYERS AND FAMILIES - Interest Letter from our president.

Greetings, Eastlake Basketball Parents!

As you may have read in the Wolves Weekly Update, you will soon be able to register your son for Summer Basketball.  To be eligible students must be registered in Final Forms (for SUMMER Athletics See EHS Athletics Summer tab on our Eastlake website) and pay fees in online payments to participate (100.00 for basketball).  Registration will be open June 1 - June 20, and the season will go from June 14 - July 28.  During that time, players can participate in open gyms, strength training, overall conditioning, and possible tournaments/leagues.

In addition, it has come to our attention that a lot of the information covered at the parent meeting may have been missed and that questions arose during the season regarding Eastlake Basketball in general.  Here is a "Year At-A-Glance" for a typical season and some information that you may find useful if you/your son is new to the basketball program at Eastlake:

  • Strength training and conditioning offered from Trainer Cody Novak. Sessions are usually 2-3 times per week at Eastlake in the weight room.  We are currently figuring out details for this summer and will send an email with more information.
  • Sign-ups for Fall Season are usually in August (more details below).  We will be sending out more information in the next month or so.
  • It would be beneficial for players to continue to get up shots on their own time.

  • Fall Season begins.  Fall Season is offered by the Booster Club and there are usually two teams: Varsity and JV.  Varsity plays during the week and sometimes weekends at Bellevue College.  JV teams usually play only on weekends at Newport high school, or another local high school.  Season typically runs from mid-September through October.  Eastlake coaches are unable to coach these teams and are unable to have contact with their players, so we have experienced coaches who are not part of the Eastlake coaching staff. Any player currently in the Eastlake program can sign up for Fall season.
  • Strength training is also typically offered during the fall to get ready for the regular season.

November - February

  • Tryouts are usually around Veteran's Day weekend/week and last three days.
  • Games start at the end of November/beginning of December.
  • Players are expected to be available during Thanksgiving break, Winter break, and mid-Winter break. (Do not make travel plans for those dates).
  • There is usually a tournament during Winter break.

March - May

  • "Off-Season" for basketball.  If players are part of a club/AAU team, those teams usually play in April and May.
  • For players who aren't playing a spring sport, it is expected that players remain conditioned and getting on the court as much as possible.
  • Sign-ups will be offered for Spring/Summer season.

  • Spring/Summer season.  Unlike the Fall Season, Eastlake coaches are able to coach during this period.  There are typically two teams: Varsity and JV.  Teams will play in 2-3 tournaments and/or league games during the month of June, and there will be open gyms/practices during the week. We do not hold tryouts for spring season.
  • If your son is on a club/AAU team, the high school team takes precedent during this spring/summer session.
  • Incoming 9th graders are allowed to play on the high school team for spring/summer.

A few additional notes:

  • As mentioned, high school takes precedent over club/AAU teams.  (This may be new to some as it was not always the case in the youth programs).
  • Please pay attention to e-mails being sent from the Booster Club as registrations for strength training, Fall League, and Spring/Summer leagues will go through SportsEngine.
  • All of the information listed above is just what has been done in the past, so it could be subject to change.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with questions regarding Eastlake Boys Basketball.  If you are interested in helping the Booster Club in any way, please let me know.  Thank you so much for your support!
